2008 Retrospective: 2008 Music.Part Two
Okay, I have finally compiled my year end music list:
I’m doing an album top 5 but I’m listing 3 albums at the number two spot, so it will actually end up being an 8 album list. The 3 albums in the number two spot were lumped together because they all were pretty much neck and neck in Itunes play counts. These high play counts were not so much due to personal listens as they were to work listens. When listening to music at work I have to take into consideration the musical tastes of my 5 daily co workers and these three albums were perfect for work because they are inoffensive, poppy with catchy hooks, they contained short songs, and most of all they are extremely re-listenable. My number one album was released as a demo in 2007 and was included on some 2007 lists, but its proper label release wasn’t until 2008, so since I’m not a record label A & R or a Pitchfork contributor I’m including it in my 08 list.
I’m also including a top 10 song list which I will bundle and upload as a rar file soon, maybe even tonight. A little treat for our 4 readers.
Chris’s Top 5 Albums of 2008:
1) Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
2a) Tokyo Police Club – Elephant
2b) Vampire Weekend – Self Titled
2c) Born Ruffians – Red, Yellow and Blue
3) Tv On The Radio – Dear Science,
4) Wolf Parade - At Mt. Zoomer
5) The Teenagers – Reality Check
Chris’s Top 10 Songs of 2008:
(I’m not including any songs from my top 8 albums for the sake of variety)
1) MGMT – Kids
2) Atmosphere – Puppets
3) Okkervil River – Lost Coastlines
4) Kings of Leon – Use Somebody
5) Wale – The Perfect Plan
6) Department of Eagles – No One Does It Like You

2008 Retrospective: 2008 Music.Part One
Carli just took credit for one of my favorite 08 hip hop finds. I guess I should get some of my picks for 2008 online before she takes credit for all my internet digging.
The songs that almost made my top ten:
Lykke Li - Dance, Dance, Dance (this version in particular)
Coldplay - Lovers in Japan and Strawberry Swing
White Denim - Heart From All of Us (although these two are also amazing)
Q-Tip - Gettin Up (closest thing we'll get to new ATCQ)
Invincible - Shapeshifters (female MC out of Detroit)
The Dodos - Fools
Ghosthustler - Busy, Busy, Busy
Frightened Rabbit - The Modern Leper
Library Voices - Step Off The Map and Float
Britney - Womanizer
T.I. - Live Your Life
Deerhunter - Nothing Ever Happened
